Knot Trestle Table for Knot Trestle

Initial Planning and Design Concept
As a wedding gift, the Janicki's were gifted a maple tree off Tim Korhonen farm in Bethel, ME, with the intention to harvest lumber for a dining table. Review of harvested maple lumber having many distinguished featured knots, the floor plan and seating requirements derived the design drawings.

Formal Design

Wood Selection and Layout
The maple lumber had many knot features creating a challenging layout to have these knots displayed but not distract from the table top. To achieve this, WWS arranged the knots randomly and added uniformly spaced butterflies, the butterflies become the focal point allowing the knots to blend throughout the top.

Milling, Shaping, Joinery and Gluing
Individual parts are milled, ripped, cross cut and joints cut. To shape the feet, many thin strips are cut, bent on a form and glued, creating a bent laminate. The table top is glued, butterflies added and edge profile shaped.
